The imitation game

How Worx power tools became the Rolex of their industry

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so you can imagine how proud we feel here at Worx, with all the copycats that are popping out. As a matter of fact, imitators emulate the prestigious, not the commonplace.

Innovative industrial design

When it comes to industrial design, we’ve been on the forefront of innovation from the beginning of our journey.

Up to a few years ago, power tools were made of two shells of solid color plastic. Yellow, red, green, blue… Quite outdated and boring. We changed the industry’s style language by designing matt black bodies with orange accents, defining power tools’ appearance as we know it today.

We went even further by shrinking the body of our tools to the minimum, exposing the functional elements as much as possible. Our slimmer design changed the paradigm that a bulkier machine is synonymous with power.

HydroShot, a case study

In 2015 we invented HydroShot, the first pressure washer that doesn’t need to be connected to an electrical outlet,nor to a tap. So portable and convenient that it was an instant success with customers. And with tool makers.

Even DeWalt, a highly respected brand in the industry, couldn’t resist launching a yellow version of our HydroShot in 2021.

The Save-the-Hedgehogs solution

Here at Worx we truly care about preserving nature, so we came up with a solution to hedgehogs being hurt (and sometimes even killed) by robotic lawn mowers at night. We created Save-the-Hedgehogs, a feature that lets your robot mow during daytime only, when the nocturnal animals are safe in their shelters.

Gardena, a well-known brand in the industry, came following in 2021, and we couldn’t be prouder. We hope that other competitors will soon join us in the quest to ensure safety for nocturnal animals.

From inspired products to slavish imitations

Having followers is intrinsic to the nature of trend-setters. Some tool makers go beyond what’s legitimate and create full fledged replicas of our products. After all, having copycats is what acknowledges that you’re going in the right direction.
